Fun Craft

Sunday, February 26th, 2012

Hi everyone! Today my girls and I made a fun project for Easter.  What made me think of it was going to Walgreens yesterday, and seeing the Easter Aisle that had taken over the Valentine’s Aisle.  So my next stop was the 99 Cents Only Store.  There I got two packs of plastic eggs (12 ct I think) and a 12 ct pack of glittery egg “ornaments”.  My cost was $2.97.

Then I went home and dug out of the closet what I’d been saving: white and green wreaths.  I got these shiny wreaths after Christmas at Target for 90% off.  Originally they were $8, so I paid 80 cents each.  I got several, picturing my future Easter craft in my head.

So my daughters and I made 3 wreaths (one for the neighbor) by putting the eggs on the wreaths.  I simply closed the plastic eggs with a bit of the “raffia stuff” inside, so hold them on the wreath.  The glittery eggs though, I tied to the “raffia”.  Can’t think of a better word for what those wreaths are made of, LOL!  Here are some pics:

Walgreens Register Rewards

Sunday, January 8th, 2012

I think it’s time to post again about Walgreens Register Rewards. I was counting mine, and realized I have $72 right now in RR!

Register Rewards is a program where you can get $$ back off your next purchase.  It’s really easy.  For example, Excedrin might be on sale for $3 for a 20 count box (just an example, not really on sale this week).  The ad says that when you buy this product, you get $2 in Register Rewards.  That means that after you pay the cashier $3 plus tax, the cashier will hand you a coupon for $2 off your next purchase at Walgreens.  So in essence, it’s “like paying” $1 for the Excedrin. Here’s where it’s fun: We almost always have $1 off coupons for Excedrin.  So, using one of those, I only pay $2 at the register, and still get my $2 RR back.  It’s “like” getting it for FREE!

One thing to note is, RR expire after two weeks.  So, since I don’t make it EVERY week to Walgreens, I put a little reminder in my phone a day before my RR are going to expire so I don’t forget to use them.

Another important thing: Let’s go back to the Excedrin example.  If I want to put my bag in the car, go back in to Walgreens and do the deal AGAIN, I can NOT use the RR I just earned on it.  If it was printed because of Excedrin, you can’t use it on Excedrin.  (The RR says on it which product triggered it….you can use it on anything else in the store except the usual exceptions, like tobacco and prescriptions.)

It is possible to Make Money from this (applied to other things in the cart of course).  For example, here is a transaction I did last week:

Triaminic on sale for 2 for $10.

$5 RR earned when you buy 2.

“Like paying” 2 for 5.

$3 Manufacturers coupons in recent newspapers.

I paid the cashier $4 plus tax ($10 minus the 2 $3 cpns)

I got $5 RR of my next purchase.

LOVE IT!

My Fry’s trip this week

Tuesday, December 20th, 2011

My father-in-law wanted to make Chex Mix, so I bought 9 boxes of Chex Mix, and couldn’t help but get a few other things.  :)  Here is the pic below of my shopping trip that cost less than $44!  (Training pants threw off my % a bit, boo hoo)

Walmart Today

Saturday, December 3rd, 2011

I just got back from price matching at Walmart. I am not a huge Walmart fan, BUT, I can get all the best produce deals in one shot instead of hiking around.  Here was my personal list for fruits and veggies.  Tip:  I use those “green” bags that are sold for keeping produce fresher longer.  They really work.  I rinse mine out thoroughly after use and keep reusing them.

  • Kiwi   .14 ea  Pro’s Ranch market
  • Cucumbers .19 ea Pro’s Ranch market
  • Avocados  .19 ea  Food City (through Sun only)
  • Cilantro  .24 ea  Food City
  • Green Bell peppers .24 ea  Food City
  • Roma tomatoes  .33 per lb  Food City
  • Fuji apples  .49 per lb  Pro’s Ranch market
  • Blackberries 6oz  .77  Sprouts  (Walmart only had a smaller size but let me price match luckily….still a good deal)
  • Bartlett Pears  .77 per lb  Sprouts
  • Eggplant, ea  .88  Sunflower market
  • Mushrooms (pkg)  .99  Safeay
  • 5lb box clementine oranges  2.99 Albertson’s  (didn’t find this at Walmart though…maybe yours will have them)

There are other deals out there, but I got what I wanted for my family.  I always get what I think they will eat and is also cheapest for the week.  I won’t buy Cantelope, for instance, unless it’s a super sale that week. Even if my kids want it.  They can eat blackberries and pears instead.  :)

Happy Shopping!

New Cleaner–JAWS

Saturday, November 19th, 2011

Hi everyone! I wanted to share a product I tried out recently.  JAWS.  I feel like I’m constantly cleaning my house.  Kids spill so much on top of the regular cleaning I do, that I go through a lot of cleaning products.  Fortunately, with coupons, I don’t spend TOO much on cleaning stuff.  But….it still adds up.  That’s why I was excited to try JAWS (sold at Basha’s).  Once you have bought the bottle that comes with a cartridge, you just buy refills from that point on.

One thing I wondered though was….how well could JAWS clean if I’m adding so much water to the bottle?  I was happily surprised to find that it cleans great–and there are 4 different varieties of JAWS to choose from.

I let my mom borrow some when she had company coming into town, so that she could give me her feedback as well.  Here’s what she said:

“Finally had a chance to use some of the product over the weekend.  Like the concept of adding water to the bottle and inserted the small cartridge on top.  The puncturing was easy to do and as soon as the top was put on, you could see the agent mixturing into the water in
the bottle.
I started with the window cleaner which worked great on mirrors and windows.  It smelled wonderful too. Next tried some of the degreaser and sprayed it on my stove filter which had not been cleaned in a long time.  Sat it in hot water in the sink and just watched the grease dissolve right off of it.  Then rinsed in tap water and let it dry.  Sure impressed me and can’t wait to try the other two cleaners..
Also, like the idea of different colors for different products.”

Here are some pics of my cleaning process, LOL

I hear that JAWS will be on sale soon at Basha’s….making it an even sweeter buy.  I will pass along the info when I get it! Happy Cleaning!
