How Hard is Coupon Sense?

Not hard at all. Here’s my coupon sense routine which saves about 70% each trip:

  1. On Wednesday I make my newsletter email for you guys outlining the stored promotions and the freebies.  I decide on 2 stores I will go to that week.  (Lucky you—you just get to open the newsletter and decide on the best stores!)
  2. I log in to Coupon Sense and click on the the first store I want to shop at.  I click on the Price column so that everything is arranged from lowest to highest price.  I begin clicking on the items I want to buy at that store.
  3. I do the same for the 2nd store.
  4. I push “Print”.
  5. The printed shopping list tells me which coupons to get out of my coupon bin.
  6. I take two envelopes.  One has Store  XXX written on it and the other one Store YYY (just an example obviously).  I put the coupons for each store’s shopping trip in the correct envelope.
  7. I take the Printed Shopping list and the coupon envelope with me to the store.  I buy what’s on the list, hand the cashier the envelope, pay the small balance, and leave happy!

I just saw you on Twitter and am following now (I’m new at this) but I would like to know how to save money with coupons up here in Kingman. I don’t get a newspaper delivered. We live out of town about 10 miles and would have to drive into town to get the Daily Miner or the Las Vegas paper. (They stopped delivering the Phoenix paper last year anywhere in this whole county) My question is can I still save money by doing coupons online? Can you get good deals on things that aren’t junk food? I’m on WW and I don’t eat junk food. Most of the coupons that I ever see are stuff that I normally don’t buy. I have certain brands that I buy because of the 0 trans fats and no sugar, etc. Healthy food. Thanks and looking forward to hearing from you. JB

Hi Janet! Lots of great questions.

Will Coupon Sense work in Kingman? Yes. It will have the stores there in the system and you can see what is on sale and any coupons that match up from the Arizona Republic.

Now, if you are getting coupons from a different newspaper, they match up about 80% of the time to what we get in AZ Republic, so it is still beneficial. I would suggest just getting the Sunday paper (especially since you are 10 miles out of town) and getting 2 or 3 each Sunday.

The coupons that are published are not just for junk food….there are many deals on toiletries, pet foods, and healthier foods too! Bagged salads, lean lunchmeats, pasta sauces, whole grain items, some organic foods, and more. One tip I will mention: most coupons are for any variety within the brand. Example= Ragu pasta sauce. Save .50 on any Ragu pasta sauce 18oz or larger. Well, Ragu has heart healthy versions and low sodium versions. So, choose one of those instead of the regular! Even things like DiGiorno Pizza has a whole wheat crust version to choose from.

If you are very selective about what brands and products you consume, you will save less. That’s just a fact. Because I don’t care if it’s Simply Orange or Minute Maid, or Bumble Bee or Starkist, or Coke or Pepsi, I save more. Whatever the better deal is, is what I buy. It sounds like you are on a very restrictive diet, so you won’t have quite as many options to choose from.

The nice thing is, you can always try it. Try Coupon Sense for 2 months (that’s what I recommend so that you have enough coupons to make a difference), which will cost you $4 the first month and then $14 the second month. See how well it works for you in your situation. You should definitely be able to save enough just in toiletries alone to cover the cost of the papers & Coupon Sense, and you’ll be able to see how well the food works in to the program for you.

As always, call if you have further questions! Good luck!
